Pointers When Visiting Terminally Ill Loved Ones

Pointers When Visiting Terminally Ill Loved Ones

Do you have loved ones who are receiving hospice care in Ontario, California? You might be confused about what to do as a hospice visitor. You might not know how to act during the visit.

In this case, here are some pointers you might want to consider:

  • Call beforehand.

Let your loved ones know that you are coming. Ask when is the right time to come. If you are planning to bring something, like food or flowers, ask if such things are safe for the patients.

  • Let your loved ones lead the conversation.

If they want to talk about their palliative care experience or anything else, offer a listening ear. This will help prevent any conversations about topics your family members don’t want to talk about.

  • Talk about your memories together.

Don’t be afraid to reminisce memories with them. Tell them that they will be in your memories and that you will miss them.

  • Visit often.

Make sure not to make a promise to visit, though, if you can’t. Also, you don’t have to visit physically. There are available platforms online, such as video calls, that allow you to check up on them easily, conveniently, and frequently.
